Buena Vista Community Land Trust was the first master planned community in North Boulder’s popular Holiday Development. There are a total of 57-units in the project. 50 are permanently affordable and 7 are market rate single family homes.

The Community Building consists of a communal kitchen, community room, offices and wrap around veranda opening out onto the common grounds. Acting as Project Designer, Joseph Vigil developed the passive cooling system based on the thermal chimney effect which cools by creating a draft. The Owner/Developer, Thistle Community Housing, applied for and received grant moneys to purchase a mechanical window system which was installed in the upper atrium of the community room, allowing the occupants to cool the space. The design also created a unique contemporary approach that optimized solar heat gain.

THISTLE COMMUNITY HOUSING
